But the people heard of it, and they followed him on foot from their towns. 14  When Jesus went ashore, he saw the crowd gathered there and he had compassion on them. And he healed their sick. 15  Late in the afternoon, his disciples came to him and said, "We are in a lonely place and it is now late. You should send these people away, so they can go to the villages and buy something for themselves to eat." 16  But Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away; you give them something to eat." 17  They answered, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fishes." 18  Jesus said to them, "Bring them here to me." 19  Then he made everyone sit down on the grass. John has risen from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him." 3  Herod had, in fact, ordered that John be arrested, bound in chains and put in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. 4  For John had said to him, "It is not right for you to have her as wife." 5  Herod wanted to kill him but he did not dare, because he feared the people who regarded John as a prophet. 6  On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst of the guests; she so delighted Herod 7  that he promised under oath to give her anything she asked. 8  The girl, following the advice of her mother, said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here

Do you believe this?" 27  Martha then answered, "Yes, Lord, I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world

St. Innocent I, Pope First Reading: Exodus 40:16-21, 34-38 Responsorial: Psalm 84:3, 4, 5-6, 8, 11 Gospel, Matthew 13:47-53 Holy Gospel: 47  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a big fishing net let down into the sea, in which every kind of fish has been caught. 48  When the net is full, it is dragged ashore. Then they sit down and gather the good fish in buckets, but throw the worthless ones away. 49  That is how it will be at the end of time; the angels will go out to separate the wicked from the just 50  and throw them into the blazing furnace, where they will weep and gnash their teeth." 51  Jesus asked, "Have you understood all these things?" "Yes", they answered. 52  So he said to them, "You will see that every teacher of the Law who becomes a disciple of the Kingdom is like a householder who can produce from his store things both new and old." 53  When Jesus had finished these parables, he left the place. Saint Pantaleon, Martyr First Reading: Exodus 34: 29-35 Responsorial: Psalms 99:5, 6, 7, 9 Gospel: Matthew 13:44-46 Holy Gospel: The treasure, the pearl and the net 44  The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. The one who finds it buries it again; and so happy is he, that he goes and sells everything he has, in order to buy that field. 45  Again the kingdom of heaven is like a trader who is looking for fine pearls. 46  Once he has found a pearl of exceptional quality, he goes away, sells everything he has and buys it. First Reading: Moses comes down from the mountain 29  When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two slabs of the Statement in his hands, he was not aware that the skin of his face was radiant after speaking with Yahweh. 30  Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw that Moses’ face was radiant and they were afraid to go near him. 31  But Moses called them, and Aaron with all the leaders of the community drew near, and Moses spoke

Prayer to Saint Peregrine, Patron Saint of Cancer Patients

O Great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty", "The Wonder-Worker", because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fibre of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favoured with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you. (Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying) Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen. Click Here for the Original Source and for the Novena to Saint Peregrine.

Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?' They replied, 'We can.' 23 He said to them, 'Very well; you shall drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left, these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been allotted by my Father.' 24 When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, 'You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over

Saint Mary Magdelene      First Reading: Exodus 20:1-17 Responsorial: Psalm 63: 2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9 Gospel: John 20:1-2, 11-18 Holy Gospel: 1 It was very early on the first day of the week and still dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb 2 and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. 'They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,' she said, 'and we don't know where they have put him.' 11 But Mary was standing outside near the tomb, weeping. Then, as she wept, she stooped to look inside, 12 and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, the other at the feet. 13 They said, 'Woman, why are you weeping?' 'They have taken my Lord away,' she replied, 'and I don't know where they have put him.' 14 As she said this she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not realise that it was Jesus. 15

St. Lawrence of Brindisi First Reading: Exodus 19: 1-2, 9-11, 16-20b Responsorial: Daniel 3: 52, 53, 54, 55, 56 Gospel: Matthew 13: 10-17  Holy Gospel: 10 Then the disciples went up to him and asked, 'Why do you talk to them in parables?' 11 In answer, he said, 'Because to you is granted to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but to them it is not granted. 12 Anyone who has will be given more and will have more than enough; but anyone who has not will be deprived even of what he has. 13 The reason I talk to them in parables is that they look without seeing and listen without hearing or understanding. 14 So in their case what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah is being fulfilled: Listen and listen, but never understand! Look and look, but never perceive! 15 This people's heart has grown coarse, their ears dulled, they have shut their eyes tight to avoid using their eyes to see, their ears to hear, their heart to understand, changing

July 20, 2011 Saint Margaret of Antioch First Reading: Exodus 16:1-5, 9-15 Responsorial: Psalm 78:18-19, 23-28 Gospel: Matthew 13:1-9 The Proclamation of the Holy Gospel According to Matthew That same day Jesus left the house and sat down by the lakeside. As many people gathered around him, he got in a boat. There he sat while the whole crowd stood on the shore, and he spoke to them in parables about many things. Jesus said, "The sower went out to sow and, as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground where there was little soil, and the seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was not deep. But as soon the sun rose the plants were scorched and withered because they had no roots. Again other seeds fell among thistles; and the thistles grew and choked the plants. Still other seeds fell on good soil and produced a crop; some produced a hundredfold, others sixty and others thirty. If you have ears, then hear!&q

Persecution of the Roman Catholic Faith in Mainland China

The persecution of the Roman Catholic Church in mainland China escalates. The Chinese communist regime proceeds the illicit episcopal ordination of Father Joseph Huang Bingzhang last July 14, 2011which took place in the Diocese of Shantou, Province of Guandong, Mainland China. Here is the Declaration of the Holy See Regarding the Illicit Episcopal Ordination: 1. Fr. Joseph Huang Bingzhang, having been ordained without papal mandate and hence illicitly, has incurred the sanctions laid down by canon 1382 of the Code of Canon Law. Consequently, the Holy See does not recognize him as bishop of the diocese of Shantou, and he lacks authority to govern the Catholic community of the diocese. Fr. Huang Bingzhang had been informed some time ago that he could not be approved by the Holy See as an episcopal candidate, inasmuch as the diocese of Shantou already has a legitimate bishop; Fr. Huang had been asked on numerous occasions not to accept episcopal ordination. 2. From various sources the
