Gospel: Luke 1:26-38

Holy Gospel:

26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent 27 to a young virgin who was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28 The angel came to her and said, "Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you." 29 Mary was troubled at these words, wondering what this greeting could mean.

30 But the angel said, "Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you. 31 You shall conceive and bear a son and you shall call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and shall rightly be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his ancestor; he will rule over the people of Jacob forever 33 and his reign shall have no end."

34 Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be if I am a virgin?" 35 And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the holy child to be born shall be called Son of God. 36 Even your relative Elizabeth is expecting a son in her old age, although she was unable to have a child, and she is now in her sixth month. 37 With God nothing is impossible."

38 Then Mary said, "I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said." And the angel left her.

Second Reading:

3 In the same way we as children were first subjected to the created forces that govern the world. But when the fullness of time came, God sent his Son. He came born of woman and subject to the Law, 5 in order to redeem the subjects of the Law, that we might receive adoption as children of God. 6 And because you are children, God has sent into your hearts the Spirit of his Son which cries out: Abba! that is, Father!

7 You yourself are no longer a slave but a son or daughter, and yours is the inheritance by God’s grace.

 First Reading:

1 Listen to wisdom singing her own praises and extolling herself in the midst of her people. See, she opens her mouth in the assembly of the Most High, she glories in herself before the Almighty.

3 I came out from the mouth of God and covered the face of the earth like a mist; although 4 my dwelling place is in the highest heavens, my throne is within a pillar of cloud.

16 I spread out my branches like a vine; these are Glory and Grace.

22 Those who obey me will not be put to shame; those who serve me will not fall into sin.

23 All this is in the Bible, the Testament of the Most High God, the book of the Law which Moses entrusted to us, the inheritance of the congregations of Israel.

 Responsorial Psalm:

5 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
from all my fears he delivered me.

7 When the poor cry out, the Lord hears
and saves them from distress.

9 Oh, see and taste the goodness of the Lord!
Blessed is the one who finds shelter in him!

10 Revere the Lord, all you his saints,
for those who fear him do not live in want.

18 The Lord hears the cry of the righteous
and rescues them from all their troubles.

19 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves the distraught.
